Snow is coming and many local schools are either closed or participating in virtual learning. Check out what's happening around Richmond City, Henrico and Hanover here. This list will include private and homeschooling co-ops. If you know of a school closing, email cjw@macaronikid.com or send a DM on our social media pages.
Richmond
The snow's passed, but with low temperatures leading to potentially icy forecasts early in the morning, all RPS schools and offices will open in-person on a two-hour delay tomorrow, Friday, February 21st. Please exercise caution while using the roads and sidewalks. We love you here, and can’t wait to see you!
Henrico County Public Schools
Transportation teams traveled neighborhoods today and confirmed road conditions are safe for a delayed opening. All schools and offices will open on a 2-hour delay on Friday, Feb. 21.
Friday is a “Day 2” for middle and high schools. Half-day preschool classes are canceled.
School-based and central facilities staff should report to work on time tomorrow. We are grateful for their hard work today clearing sidewalks and parking lots to prepare buildings for students' return on Friday.
We appreciate your continued flexibility as we adjust for this winter’s unusual number of snow days.
Hanover County Public Schools
HCPS will be CLOSED on FRIDAY, FEBRUARY 21. REMOTE LEARNING DAY. Well, FRIENDS, I think we can all agree that winter is not our lobster any more and we are officially on a break. Once again, we are going to have to PIVOT to remote learning for tomorrow, so please read carefully.
Our team has continued to carefully evaluate road and weather conditions. While the snow has stopped and melting is occurring in some areas, hazardous conditions remain on roadways for our buses, student drivers, staff, and parents, especially in the far eastern and western portions of our county (i.e., Black Creek, Old Church, Montpelier, Elmont, etc.). We do not foresee these conditions improving significantly in time for morning arrival as temperatures will remain well below freezing.
As a result, HCPS will be CLOSED on Friday, February 21. Students will learn remotely. Twelve-month employees are to report to work in their buildings two hours late. Teachers and other staff may work remotely.
Tomorrow will be another Remote Learning Day across the school division. We will share more detailed information soon regarding tomorrow’s Remote Learning Day.
We understand this is disruptive and sincerely appreciate your patience as we work to make the best possible decisions for our students and staff. We hope that sharing this information well in advance is helpful to you as you begin to make the necessary arrangements.
In the meantime, we hope you stay safe and warm. If you get cold or just need some exercise, just pull a Joey, put on all of Chandler’s clothes, and do some lunges…or pull a Monica and put a turkey on your head to keep it warm. Please remember that just like Smelly Cat, it’s not our fault! And, as always HCPS, we’ll be there for you!
